The beloved teddy bear has been around for more than a hundred years now and remains as appealing as ever. It all started in 1902, with a cartoon in The Washington Post by Clifford Berryman, after President Teddy Roosevelt refused to shoot a defenseless bear cub during a hunting trip. Public sympathy was with the president and the cub, and "Teddy's Bear" soon became famous, first in print and then in plush.
